Truck Accident in Frederick County Kills One Motorcyclist

Earlier this week in Frederick County, one motorcyclist lost his life when he ran into a truck that turned in front of him. According to a report by a local news source, the fatal truck accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on southbound Route 15 at North Franklinville Road in Thurmont.

Evidently, a trash truck was heading from North Franklinville Road across the southbound lanes of Route 15 when he cut off the motorcyclist. The biker had no time to react and ran into the rear driver’s side of the truck. Minutes after the accident, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead by emergency responders.

Police believe that neither speed nor alcohol was involved in the accident, and the driver of the garbage truck admits that he just didn’t see the motorcyclist coming when he decided to pull out into the road. It is unclear if the driver will face any criminal charges for his involvement in the accident.

Garbage Truck Accidents in Maryland

One might not think that garbage trucks pose much of a threat on the road, but that is simply not the case. Due to their large size and cumbersome nature, drivers of these huge vehicles often have a difficult time seeing other traffic on the road. Indeed, that is exactly what happened in this tragic case.

When a driver is unable to see all around him, for whatever reason, it becomes that driver’s duty to operate the vehicle with extra care, making sure to go slowly around corners, pull into intersections slowly, etc. When a driver fails to follow these simple safety measures, innocent people can get hurt.

Recovering From a Serious Truck Accident

The physical aspect of an accident victim’s recovery is only one part of the overall road to normalcy. Indeed, there are likely past medical bills, lost time at work, emotional pain and suffering, and potentially costly future medical expenses that will all need to be dealt with in addition to the physical recovery.

It is for this reason that Maryland state law allows for the victims of truck accidents to recover financially from those who caused their injuries. In many cases, accident victims are able to recover sizable awards, including compensation for past and future medical expenses, lost wages, and even the pain and suffering caused by the accident.
