Chain-Reaction Accident on Expressway Claims Three Lives, Injures Several Others
Earlier this week in New York City, a semi-truck accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway killed three motorists and injured several others. According to one local news source covering the tragic accident, a semi-truck was stopped in traffic in the middle of the Expressway when another truck came from behind. The second truck failed to stop in time to avoid a collision, and it slammed into the rear of a pick-up truck that had come to a stop behind the first truck. Another passenger vehicle was also struck by the second truck.
The pick-up truck ended up underneath the second semi-truck, and the passenger vehicle ended up on the median. Three passengers in the pick-up truck were all pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in the pick-up, as well as two passengers in the second semi-truck and those in the passenger vehicle, were taken to nearby hospitals with varying injuries.
Police are conducting an investigation into the accident, but they believe that speed, weather, and traffic conditions all played a role in the fatal accident. Police also believe that another driver may have been involved in causing the accident but fled the scene in the aftermath. Thus far in the investigation, no citations have been issued.
