Laurel Bus Accident Claims One Man’s Life, Injures Seven Others

Earlier this month in Laurel, one man was killed and another seven people injured after a tour bus and a pick-up truck were involved in an accident. According to one local news report, the accident took place on Md. Route 198, near the Amish market on Md. Route 197.

Evidently, the tour bus was carrying 58 people and was heading eastbound when it began to make a left-hand turn into a shopping center. As the bus began its turn, another driver approached the bus from the opposite direction, eventually crashing into the bus and injuring seven people aboard.

The driver of the other vehicle was killed as a result of the collision. The Mayor of Laurel told reporters and investigators that he wants an investigation conducted to see if there is anything that can be done about the dangerous intersection. According to reports, the intersection is a lethal one, and several serious and fatal accidents occur there each year.

Investigators are still in the midst of their investigation into the cause of the fatal accident, and the driver of the bus does not face any criminal charges as of yet. However, that could change after the investigation wraps up.

Bus Accidents in Maryland

Like other large vehicles, buses have the potential to cause massive damage when they are involved in an accident. In some ways, a bus accident can be more dangerous because there can be so many people on board at any given time. Thankfully, only seven people aboard the bus were seriously injured.

Sadly, however, the driver of the smaller vehicle that crashed into the bus did not survive the accident. Indeed, the investigation has not yet been completed, and it is not clear whether he was at fault or if it was the bus driver who erred in the moments leading up to the accident. There is also the possibility that the stretch of road where the accident occurred is so dangerous that neither party can be named as the responsible party.

Accidents in “Problem Areas”

In any car or truck accident, the responsible driver can be named in a lawsuit for damages. However, the Mayor of Laurel seemed to believe that the area where the accident occurred is a problem area where many accidents occur each year. If that is the case, the local government in charge of designing and maintaining the road may also be held liable. To learn more, contact a dedicated Maryland personal injury attorney.
