Truck Accident in Elkridge, Maryland Injures Seven People

Seven people were injured in a truck accident involving a tractor trailer and a commuter bus. Howard County Police responded to U.S. Route 1 at Dorsey Road in Elkridge, Maryland.

According to police, the driver of the tractor trailer made a wide right turn from the left lane and collided with the Howard County Commuter Bus. Paramedics transported the driver and six passengers, including one child, to Howard County General Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

I found the following statistics compiled by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration with regard to eighteen-wheeler accidents involving buses in state of Maryland:

• 12% of Maryland truck accidents in 2006 were caused by the truck driver making right turns from the left lane, or visa versa;
• 35.6% of fatal truck accidents occurred on primary road ways such as Dorsey Road;
• 22% of fatal truck accidents occurred on interstate highways such as Route 1; and

• In 2006, large trucks were involved in 2,298 non fatal and 76 fatal accidents with passenger vehicles.
