Car Crashes into Tractor-Trailer on Md. I-95

A tragic accident that happened early Wednesday morning on Interstate 95 left one individual dead, and a truck driver undoubtedly shaken up.

The accident occurred near the Intercounty Connector in Beltsville, when one car traveling northbound on I-95 crossed over into the southbound lanes and crashed into a tractor-trailer. As the images in the article show, the car was left almost completely decimated, and tragically the driver was killed. No other injuries were reported.

A second car was discovered nearby in the grassy median, but it is unknown whether that car was involved in the accident. Police reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

While the cause of the accident remains unknown, investigators believe that the driver of the car was most likely at fault.

Due to the early morning hour at which this accident occurred, reportedly around 3:30 a.m., one possible reason for the accident could have been a sleepy driver. Additional explanations might include distracted driving, impaired driving, or over-correction in response to an obstacle or other driver.

Trucking accidents are an unfortunate part of sharing the road with commercial vehicles. Every year thousands of innocent people are injured or killed following collisions with tractor-trailers and other large commercial vehicles. The sheer size and weight of these tractor-trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, box trucks and car carriers make the injuries associated with trucking accidents more severe than those associated with other types of crashes.

Even when truck drivers are not driving negligently and are observing all of the relevant traffic laws, accidents can happen. A common example of an accident caused by an otherwise safe truck driver might be when a load suddenly falls out of the back of a truck, or an overpass is too low for the truck to pass, leading to serious consequences for other drivers. If you were involved in an accident with a truck, you may be entitled to compensation for your damages. Consult with a trucking accident attorney to discuss your particular case, and learn what potential legal options you have available.
